Joona Pulkkinen

Joona Pulkkinen has performed as a soloist with the Aurora Symphony Orchestra, Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Royal Chamber Orchestra of Wallonia, La Monnaie Symphony Orchestra in Brussels, Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, Sibelius Academy’s Symphony Orchestra and Turku Philharmonic Orchestra. He has featured at several highly regarded national music festivals in Finland and performed across many countries and concert halls of Europe: Flagey (Brussels), Palais des Beaux-Arts, Auditorium Fondation Louis Vuitton (Paris) and Concertgebouw (Amsterdam). Pulkkinen was chosen 2015-2016 to the Classe d’Excellence de Violoncelle -program in Paris led by Gautier Capuçonin. He has also studied under Gary Hoffman, Marko Ylönen and Pauli Heikkinen. In 2010 Pulkkinen won third prize at the National Turku Cello Competition and was the youngest participant in the finals.

 

Since the fall of 2014 Pulkkinen has been performing as the first principal cellist with the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also performed as the first principal cellist, for example with Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra. Joona Pulkkinen plays Charles Adolphe Gand -cello from 1855.
