BIOGRAFY

 

Cellist Joona Pulkkinen has performed as a soloist with number of orchestras, among them The Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Royal Chamber Orchestra of Wallonien, La Monnaie Symphony Orchestra, and Tampere Philharmonic.

He has participated in most of the important music festivals locally and internationally, in different countries of Europe, and performed at significant concert halls such as Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, The Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris and Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.

Pulkkinen was promoted in the 2015-2016 season of The Classe d'Excellence de Violoncelle-project, created and directed by Gautier Capuçon. His teachers were Gary Hoffman, Marko Ylönen and Pauli Heikkinen.

Joona Pulkkinen won the third prize in the national Turku Cello Competition in 2010. He has been a soloist at Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra since 2014. He was a substitute musician at Avanti! -chamber orchestra, the Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Helsinki City Orchestra. In the fall of 2022, Pulkkinen started his work as a cello lecturer at the Sibelius Academy, The University of the Arts in Helsinki.


Joona Pulkkinen plays a rare Genoese Davide Pizzorno cello from 1769 along with a Pierre Simon bow from 1855.
