Esa Räsänen is Professor of Physics and Head of the Department of Physics at the University of Tampere and Visiting Research Fellow at Harvard University. His research interests include computational physics, in particular quantum mechanics, and interdisciplinary research in complex time series, including cardiology.

 

He has published about 150 papers, several patents and the results of his research group have been commercialised, for example in heart rate monitors. Räsänen has also studied the structure of rhythmic variations in music and developed new computational methods for rhythmic analysis. He plays drums in The Prof Experience.
